Each issue of YCteen includes a lesson guide for teachers and after-school staff that shows how to use the stories with teens. Many of the YCteen stories on this site, as well as stories from our sister publication, Represent, are accompanied by free lessons (look for this icon). Most consist of a few simple discussion questions and/or writing prompts that you can use as a jumping off point for exploring the story with your teens. Some also involve role plays or other experiential activities. Many include assignments that can be used as practice for the New York State Regents exam.
We also offer curriculum programs centered on our teen stories, including work readiness (On My Way), social and emotional learning (In Real Life for high school and #trending for middle school), positive masculinity (Real Men 2.0), and girls' empowerment (Real As Me). Each of these programs include professional development, curricula, and coaching for adults who wan to improve the social and emotional learning and literacy skills of teens.
The current lesson guide, and guides from many past issues of both magazines, are available below.
